Sri Lankan telecommunications operator Mobitel is preparing to launch 3G services and extend its GSM capacity and coverage. The company is planning to expand its capacity to serve an additional 750,000 subscribers with 800 new base stations. It will also deploy an intelligent core network, equipped with a soft switch before the end of 2007. Mobitel has formally committed to this goal by signing a turnkey supply contract with Huawei Technologies.
