Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT), the country’s dominant fixed line operator, is planning to stop connecting new subscribers through CDMA technology. The move follows a directive issued by the telecom watchdog with regard to CDMA installation charges. Prior to suspension of services, SLT was charging Rs 18,400 for a CDMA connection. The Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (TRC) had objected to such high charges and directed the operator to reduce prices to Rs 12,000.

SLT therefore decided to suspend provision of new SLT Citylink CDMA connections.
