The mobile handset maker Spice Mobiles’ handset assembling unit at Noida is expected to begin commercial production by June 2015. Earlier in 2010, Spice Mobiles had to close down its manufacturing facility at Baddi due to labour unrest.
To begin with, Spice Mobiles will start producing feature phones from the assembling unit and would subsequently manufacture smartphones as well at the unit. The company would import handsets in semi knocked down form and manufacture the same at the Noida assembly unit.
Going forward, Spice Mobiles plans to focus on the sub-Rs 4,000 feature phone segment in the tier II and tier III markets. The company plans to spend Rs 1 billion on marketing initiatives over the next few months.
