SpaceX will concentrate efforts on ten rural lok sabha constituencies for 80 per cent of the Starlink satellite communications (satcom) terminals shipped to India, according to Sanjay Bhargava, SpaceX’s India head.

SpaceX will soon approach the Indian government for a licence to launch its Starlink satellite broadband services in India, with a goal of reaching 200,000 active terminals by December 2022.

Starlink has already received over 5,000 pre-orders from India. The company has urged its potential customers to deposit $99 to be put on a priority list.

As per Bhargava, the government approval process is complicated and the company will focus on getting quick approval for its pilot program before pursuing a pan-India launch.
