According to the Electronics and Information Technology (IT) secretary, sovereign interests are of paramount importance in the field of cybersecurity, and only domestically developed products can be fully trusted. Speaking at the Nasscom-Data Security Council of India (DSCI) Annual Information Security Summit (AISS), he raised concerns about organisations that remain hesitant to invest adequately in cybersecurity.
Further, he observed that mindsets within Indian entities have not shifted significantly, as many still allocate insufficient budgets for cyber protection. He noted that the government has already mandated sourcing CCTV systems and telecom network equipment from safe and trusted suppliers, and this framework will gradually extend to several additional product categories.
He added that the government alone cannot address all technological challenges, emphasising that the industry and other stakeholders must work collaboratively to strengthen the ecosystem.
