South Korea’s second biggest broadband operator Hanaro Telecom Inc. will sign a formal contract to take over Thrunet around January 20. Last month, Hanaro, controlled by US investors American International Group and private equity firm Newbridge Capital, was chosen as a prime bidder to acquire Thrunet, beating local rival Dacom Corporation, which bid for the ailing broadband operator in an alliance with Merrill Lynch.
