
South Korea-based SK Telecom is reportedly planning to make a $100 million investment in Helio, its US-based loss-making joint venture with Earthlink, Inc. Helio reported a $192 million loss in 2006 and expects to post a net loss of $330-$360 million in 2007.
According to company sources, EarthLink will also be making a similar investment in Helio to maintain its stake. Meanwhile, SK Telecom has decided to drop its proposed $66 million investment in Advanced Digital Chips, Inc., a South Korean mobile chip company. SK Telecom had earlier agreed to buy shares and convertible bonds of Advanced Digital Chips to become the latter’s top shareholder.
