According to research firm, Infonetics Research, the worldwide small cell market revenue is expected to grow from $771 million in 2013 to $1.3 billion in 2014 registering a growth of 65 per cent.

The research firm has stated that in 2013, telecom industry did not witness significant activity in the small cell segment. For example, small cell revenue stood at $771 million in 2013 as against revenue of the $24 billion revenue for 2G/3G radio access network market.

However, going forward, Infonetics Research forecasts significant investment in the small cell segment. Operators will be looking at upgrading existing macro cellular networks that are witnessing heavy traffic and struggling to deliver enhanced consumer experience to users. Additionally, with an aim to offer higher internet speed, operators will also add capacity to long term evolution networks.

Further, the research firm points out that developed countries such as Japan, South Korea, the United Kingdom and the United States are driving early adoption of small cell deployments.
