SK Telecom, South Korea’s largest mobile operator by subscriber numbers, has selected Alcatel-Lucent’s packet optical transport solution to upgrade its nationwide mobile data networks. The deployment, which is already under way, will support SK Telecom’s high capacity data traffic and help it offer better quality services. Alcatel-Lucent’s mobile backhaul service will enable SK Telecom to increase its network capacity for the delivery of Wi-Fi and broadband services. It will also support SK Telecom’s WCDMA traffic and lay the foundation for its future long term evolution (LTE)-based services. Alcatel-Lucent’s packet optical transport service is based on its 1850 TSS and is managed by its 1350 Optical Management Suite.
