Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel), which recently bought 30 per cent stake in Pakistan-based Warid Telecom, is planning to bid for a majority stake in state-owned Ghana Telecom in a deal likely to be worth over $500 million. If successful, this will be SingTel’s first acquisition in Africa. Several strategic investors including France Telecom and Portugal Telecom are also interested in buying the stake in Ghana Telecom.
