Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel) has awarded a $161 million contract to Ericsson to expand and enhance its mobile network for faster data and internet access. Ericsson will provide SingTel with a complete, future-proof internet protocol-based radio and core mobile network, designed to carry large volumes of traffic efficiently and effectively. SingTel’s current HSPA network will be upgraded to offer download speeds of up to 14.4 Mbps from the current 3.6 Mbps, and upload speeds of 5.76 Mbps from the current 384 kbps. The network enhancements are expected to be complete by March 2009.
