As per industry sources, Samsung, ZTE, Nokia, Ericsson and ITI Limited are planning to bid for carrying out the works for Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited’s (BSNL) ninth phase of 4G expansion and upgradation plan. As part of this plan, BSNL aims to deploy 50,000 new 4G sites in north, east, west and south zones and around 7,000 new sites for Delhi and Mumbai for Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL).

BSNL had issued the bidding document on March 23, 2020. The last date to submit application for the contract is May 8, 2020, post which the bids will be opened on May 9, 2020.

However, industry experts predict that the deadline may get extended due to the nationwide lockdown announced by the government. This is because a face-to-face interaction is required in the pre-bid phase.

As per sources, apart from Huawei, various gear vendors have already purchased the tender in the past few weeks.

As per the bidding document, BSNL’s 43,000 2G and 3G sites will be upgraded to 4G. Further, the tender entails that the executionary agency will be responsible for providing equipment for network planning and will also be responsible for engineering, supply, installation, testing and annual maintenance of 4G network.
