Kapil Sibal, Minister for Communications and IT has called for restructuring of the Department of Post (DoP), say news reports.

Sibal is of the view that DoP should be bifurcated to separate its regulatory and services functions. He suggested that one could look at the possibility of having three separate divisions like policy making, regulator and service provider.

Currently, DoP is responsible for policy making, regulation and providing postal services.  Sibal has suggested DoP set up a body to oversee the unbundling of its functions.

DoP is also engaged in finalising the National Postal Policy 2012 as part of which it is also working on a roadmap to restructure the organisation.
