According to a survey conducted by the Norway-based telecom company Telenor group, the senior citizens in its Asian markets are not fully receiving the benefits of mobile internet. The Telenor Group has released data from four of its Asian markets – India, Thailand, Bangladesh and Malaysia. As per the findings, the senior segment in some of these markets represents about 2 per cent of active mobile users, with still fewer using smartphones.
In India, of the total 960 million mobile subscribers, only 6 per cent of them are over 50 years. Meanwhile, only 10 per cent of Telenor’s 45.6 million subscribers in India are over 45 years. The survey cites that the key reasons for elderly consumers to not use mobile data are related to the perceived utility and complexity of the services.
