According to Ravi Shankar Prasad, union minister for communications, electronics and information technology and law and justice, the select committee of parliament is yet to finalise its report on the data protection law.

Further, the minister added that he is looking forward to the final report so that the legislation receives parliamentary approval soon.

The personal data protection bill proposes to put restriction on use of personal data without explicit consent of citizens. Further, it mandates storage of critical data of individuals by internet companies within the country while sensitive data can be transferred overseas only after explicit consent of the data owner.
