The Supreme Court (SC) has issued a notice to the government on a PIL seeking to have an autonomous board to regulate content of over-the-top (OTT) players like Amazon Prime and Netflix.

According to the petition, OTT and digital media platforms were beaming unfiltered content that would play havoc with the social fabric unless checked. The petition sought creation of an autonomous board namely the Central Board for Regulation and Monitoring of Online Video Contents to monitor and filter digital content.

A bench led by chief justice of India S.A. Bobde has sought a formal response from the government on the matter.
