The Supreme Court has ordered the immediate restoration of internet for all essential services in Jammu and Kashmir, stating that the right to access internet is a fundamental right under Article 19, subject to reasonable restrictions.
Further, the apex court has ordered the J&K administration to review all the restrictions imposed on the union territory within a week times and has asked the government to publish all the orders passed regarding the internet shutdown on the public domain, which can then be challenged in a court of law.
In addition, the Supreme Court has also asked the government to produce all orders passed with regard to suspension of telecom services.
The verdict was delivered in response to a batch of petitions that challenged the restrictions imposed by the administration, including the suspension of internet services in J&K following the abrogation of Article 370.
