The Supreme Court (SC) has extended the tenure of the chairperson and members of the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT)by three months to October 17, 2020.

The apex court also expressed displeasure over the delay in appointments in tribunals in the country.

The move comes after the SC was informed that tenure of TDSAT chairperson, Justice Shiva Kirti Singh, is coming to end on July 20, 2020, and the tenure of members of the tribunal has already ended. To this end, SC extended the tenure of TDSAT”s chairperson for some period during which the entire process of selection and appointment will be completed.

On April 7, 2020, the SC had extended the tenure of chairperson of TDSAT by three months and had expressed concern over the delay in appointment of administrative and technical members in the tribunal.
