According to chairman of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), satellite technology can play a transformative role in expanding connectivity beyond India’s urban centres and advancing the country’s progress toward the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

He highlighted how satellites can enable communications and provide critical data services in remote and underserved regions. This capability, he noted, empowers policymakers and agencies to track development indicators, make informed decisions, and implement targeted sustainability initiatives.

He further added that the Indian Space Policy, 2023, has opened up the space sector to greater private and startup participation, creating a level playing field and encouraging innovation across the ecosystem. He also said that TRAI’s latest recommendations on satellite communication are “balanced,” aiming to address the needs of all stakeholders in the emerging satcom landscape.
