The satellite industry has urged the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) for administrative allocation of spectrum in line with global practices. The industry has stated that auction of satellite spectrum has never happened in India so administrative allocation is the way to proceed.
According to SIA India, the satellite communications sector requires a conducive policy comprising international best practices to ensure growth.
Earlier, private telcos including Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea Limited (Vi) had favoured the auctioning of satellite spectrum while Bharti Airtel had stated that spectrum for satellite communication cannot be auctioned.
