According to a report by ABI Research, the satellite communications (satcom) industry is expected to offer inclusive connectivity to 330 million premises by 2026, equivalent to 1.3 billion household members. The report further states that the industry is showing resiliency amid various disruptions such as soaring interest rates and energy shortages.

With respect to the latest trends, the report notes that the industry is witnessing fast consolidation of major players and integration of non-terrestrial networks (NTNs) for space-based 5G.

The latest developments in the satcom industry include two major mergers. The European geosynchronous (GEO) satellite operator Eutelsat is merging with Bharti-backed OneWeb, while Viasat is acquiring Inmarsat.
