Satellite Industry Association of India (SIA)-India has written to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) stating that the satcom industry should be provided with a level playing field on policies pertaining to satellite broadband in India.
SIA-India also said that VSAT and satellite broadband service providers should also get incentives like fixed-line broadband providers.
Further, the industry body also stated that there is a need to prioritise the delivery of broadband through satellite in Bharatnet.
Earlier in May 2021, TRAI had asked industry stakeholders whether a direct benefit transfer (DBT) scheme or any other form of indirect incentive from the government such as license fee exemption can be offered to push the adoption of high-speed fixed-line connections in the country.
