Sanjai Kumar has taken charge as the new chairman and managing director (MD) of RailTel Corporation of India Limited. In his previous role, Kumar was the director (network planning and marketing) with an additional charge of director (project, operations and maintenance) in RailTel.
He is an officer of the Indian Railway Service of Signal Engineers (IRSSE) and has around 30 years of varied experience in railway functioning, project management and marketing. He holds a bachelor’s degree in electronic and telecommunication engineering from the University of Allahabad and a postgraduate diploma in management from the Management Development Institute, Gurugram.
Outlining his agenda, Kumar said, “My guiding principle will be – use of cutting-edge modern technology, time-bound delivery of services maximum customer satisfaction and enhancement of company’s revenue through empowerment and delegation to all team members. Recently Ministry of Railways has permitted all railway public sector undertakings (PSUs) to undertake all kinds of businesses as deemed suitable/appropriate with a view to maximise revenue and profits. Leveraging this, RailTel has formulated a comprehensive strategy to explore new business opportunities, new markets, new sectors, and new customers. I will also like to focus on international business including participation in foreign bids, signing of contracts with foreign countries and export of services. RailTel will offer more and more services and projects based on modern technologies like internet of things, artificial intelligence and machine learning in varied sectors and will take full advantage of the technological revolution. The company will also like to eye on leveraging advantages offered by upcoming 5G technology. I would like to see that RailTel positions itself as a leading and prominent ICT and telecom company in times to come.”
