Samsung has reportedly applied under the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for components to manufacture mobile phone displays in India and has also sought an extension of its approval under the smartphone PLI programme.
The president and chief executive of Samsung’s southwest Asia region said the company is open to sourcing semiconductor chips from India, provided pricing remains competitive. However, Samsung is not looking to shift manufacturing capacity from countries. Any capacity addition in India, he said, would be driven by organic demand.
Furthermore, Samsung is currently awaiting government approval to expand its operations into smartphone display assembly at its Noida plant.
