Samsung has applied for the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for telecom and networking equipment to locally manufacture 4G and 5G gear and other equipment in India. The last date for submissions for the scheme is August 25, 2022.
According to industry executives, Samsung had given the central government programme a miss in 2021 due to lack of opportunities in the equipment supply space.
However, once selected under the PLI scheme, the vendor will join other global manufacturers such as Cisco, Jabil, Flex and Foxconn as well as Nokia and Ericsson in applying for the scheme and start making the equipment locally.
