Sachidevi T.K.?s passion for technology dates back to her younger days and has been the key determinant of her career graph. Before settling down in the telecom space, she explored options like becoming a doctor or a scientist. ?I started enjoying physics and math in Class 11. I knew that I was more inclined towards solving complex problems using logic rather than remembering chemical compositions or botanical and zoological names. My application knowledge was sound and hence I decided to pursue engineering.?
She obtained a bachelor?s degree in electrical engineering from the BMS College of Engineering and a postgraduate degree in power systems from IIT, Kharagpur.
Today, she has behind her 26 years of experience, working in companies like Kirloskar Electric, GE Power Systems in India and Barcelona, Cummins Research and Technology and Emerson Network Power. Now, as chief technology officer at Indus Towers, she is responsible for the company?s technology vision and planning, and providing solutions. ?Chalking out a strong technology road map to match the company?s business needs for the coming years is higher of my agenda,? she says.
Describing herself as a risk-taker, she considers tackling complex assignments as important career milestones. ?I have always enjoyed complex rather than routine jobs,? she says. ?As a leader, I have supported teams in systematically approaching and cracking many tough applications to provide solutions.?
At Indus, her challenges are multifold. ?We provide passive infrastructure support to operators, support their developing technologies and host their equipment. The challenges that we have faced include developing a technology road map for energy saving solutions, identifying appropriate technologies for fast roll-outs, optimising passive infrastructure design and reducing material content. We also look for breakthrough technologies,? she says.
She is clearly enjoying her stint with the company. ?I have been with Indus Towers for the past six months and like the sustainable solutions that are being provided to match the diverse site needs, keeping in mind speed of execution,? she notes. That apart, she considers her stint with GE memorable too. ?The work there involved interaction with various European countries and the US. I started appreciating the diversity in thinking and enjoyed the challenge of keeping together teams across various countries, with one goal in mind.?
Sachidevi enjoys reading, travelling and watching action movies with her family. ?I also support students who aim high but are constrained financially or due to the lack of a guide,? she says
