Vodafone India and Idea Cellular may not be able to offer wireless broadband services using 4G technologies in a few circles with Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (RJIL) turning down their proposals to exchange spectrum.

Earlier, Vodafone India and Idea Cellular had approached RJIL for exchanging spectrum won in the recent spectrum auctions in a bid to get a contiguous block of 5 MHz spectrum for offering 4G services. This would have allowed the two operators to offer 4G services and compete directly with RJIL in select circles.

RJIL turned down the operators? request for exchanging spectrum on technical grounds.
