Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (RJIL) has approached the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to see if it could be allocated contiguous spectrum in the 1800 MHz band for offering 4G services in the northeast.
Earlier, in the spectrum auction concluded in February 2014, RJIL won 32 spectrum blocks in the 1800 MHz band in the northeast, of which 25 are contiguous, while the remaining seven are not. Therefore, it has approached DoT seeking a reconfiguration of the non-contiguous spectrum.
DoT has allocated a total of 101 spectrum blocks of 200 KHz each out of the 125 blocks in the northeast auctioned in the latest round of spectrum auction. The remaining 24 blocks remain unallocated. RJIL has requested DoT?s Wireless Planning and Coordination (WPC) cell to carve out contiguous spectrum available in seven blocks from the unsold spectrum.
RJIL has justified its request on the grounds that a clause in the auction rules, states that ?reconfiguration or rearrangements of blocks/spot frequency may be carried out with the authorisation of the DoT’s WPC cell.?
