Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (RJIL) has been received clearance from Thiruvananthapuram city corporation to roll out optical fibre cable network for 4G services, but is still awaiting clearance from district telecom committee (DTC) for the installation of 4G mobile towers.
As per the clearance given by the city corporation, RJIL has been allowed to install 827 towers and deploy cables for a total distance of 31.49 km. The clearance has been granted on the condition that the company will also take permit from Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB), Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), Kerala Water Authority (KWA) and Public Works Department (PWD) for laying the cables. The corporation will also levy a licence fee of Rs 150 per tower site for 1 year and Rs 13 per metre for cable for a year.
The Telecom Enforcement Resource and Monitoring (TERM) Cell of the Department of Telecommunications has not taken a final decision in the matter of installation of 4G mobile towers. TERM is currently analysing the power of transmission, the emission values before issuing the permit.
