Rishi Nandwana has had a long innings in the telecommunications industry, and is recognised for his expertise in advanced technologies such as 5G new radio (5GNR), open radio access network (ORAN), and the internet of things (IoT). With a strong background in product strategy and management, Nandwana has expertise in the design and delivery of RAN solutions. His leadership combines technical skill, strategic vision, and a customer-centric approach, making him a key asset in the ever-evolving telecom sector.
In his role as an industry adviser, Rishi leverages his extensive knowledge to mentor start-ups, helping them navigate challenges and realise their potential. His deep understanding of 5GNR RAN and platform-based architecture has garnered him respect within the industry.
As AVP-5G Strategy at VVDN, Rishi was responsible for creating architectural plans and ensuring the smooth delivery of RAN products and solutions. His career includes pivotal roles at top telecom and technology companies.
Rishi held senior positions such as tech lead at Cisco Systems, head of 5G RAN product strategy and management at Sterlite Technologies, head of network planning at Aircel Limited, CTO at MobileComm Technologies, and technical specialist roles at Nokia Siemens Networks, Ericsson India, and Bharti Airtel.
Reflecting on his time at Cisco, Rishi recalls being drawn to Sterlite Technologies’ vision to disrupt the market with 5G disaggregated RAN. His involvement in designing and developing India’s first 5G radio, entirely designed, developed and produced, was a career milestone.
Rishi believes emerging technologies such as IoT, artificial intelligence/ machine learning (AI/ML), blockchain, cloud computing, digital twins, big data analytics, and Web 3.0 are transforming the telecom industry. “Their convergence is reshaping the industry, driving innovation, improving efficiency, and enhancing customer experiences. Telecom operators that embrace these technological advancements will be well-positioned to thrive in the digital era,” he says.
As a leader, Rishi lays emphasis on delegation and support, stating, “Leadership is not about being in the spotlight; it is about enabling others to shine.” In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family and exploring emerging technologies, fostering ecosystem awareness, and studying spiritual literature.
Rishi holds a degree in electronics and communications engineering and is a certified independent director and ESG director. His family includes his parents, his wife and their daughter.
