According to the chairman, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), the conglomerate, along with Jio, will invest Rs 10 trillion over the next seven years to build artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure and edge computing capacity. The move highlights the group’s ambition to democratise access to AI in India.

Jio Intelligence will develop India’s sovereign compute infrastructure through three initiatives, including the creation of gigawatt (GW) scale data centres. These data centres and edge computing facilities will be powered by Reliance’s in house green energy storage systems, supported by up to 10 GW of ready green power surplus. This capacity will be anchored by solar installations in Kutch and Andhra Pradesh.

Further, Reliance is also seeking to replicate Jio’s mobile internet strategy within the AI ecosystem. Jio is India’s largest telecom operator, with around 500 million subscribers across broadband, 4G, 5G and home connectivity services.

Jio Intelligence aims to improve productivity, support multilingual AI capabilities across Indian languages, ensure responsible and secure data residency, and generate highly skilled employment opportunities.
