Reliance Jio seeks 5G spectrum from DoT to conduct field trials of its indigenously developed 5G technology

As per industry sources, Reliance Jio has applied for 5G spectrum to conduct field trials of its 5G network in select metros.

To this end, Jio has approached the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), requesting it to assign 800Mhz spectrum each in both the mmWave bands (26GHz and 24Ghz) as well as 100MHz spectrum in the 3.5Ghz band.

The development follows recent announcement by the operator wherein it said that it has developed a complete 5G solution, using 100 per cent homegrown technologies that will allow it to launch next-generation, high-speed services in India.
