Reliance Jio has urged the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to abstain from regulatory intervention in ringing call duration and added that the matter should be kept under forbearance.

As per Jio, TRAI can fix a reference range of 20-25 seconds to prevent inefficient use of spectrum resources. Meanwhile, Jio has added that call alert timer should be fixed by the regulator only after a detailed study by a technical panel comprising experts from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Telecom Engineering Centre (TEC).

However, Airtel has recommended terminating exchange duration to be fixed at 45 seconds and the origination exchange timer at 75 seconds.

While, Vodafone Idea urges to retain the minimum ringing timer at 30 seconds, which is in tune with the global practices.
