Reliance Jio Infocomm has earmarked Rs 70 billion for launching its 4G network in the Eastern and North Eastern regions, says news reports.

The Eastern region includes West Bengal, Odhisa, Bihar, Jharkhand, Assam and the other North-Eastern states. Of the total sum, the company is likely to spend Rs 30 billion in rolling out its 4G network in West Bengal. The company is planning to simultaneously launch these services in Kolkata, Mumbai, Delhi and Jamnagar by March 2014.

Reliance Jio Infocomm intends to set up 3,500 towers across 56 towns. It wills establish a network of 5,500 km of optical fibre cables. About half of the optical fibre network will be laid out in Kolkata and areas adjoining the city.

Further, as part of the infrastructure sharing agreement with Reliance Communication (RCOM), the company will also utilise RCOM’s existing cable network to cater to about 25 to 30 per cent of its infrastructure needs.
