According to the latest data by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Reliance Jio added 0.72 million new subscribers in September 2022. Bharti Airtel on the other hand saw a rise of over 0.41 million subscribers. Meanwhile, Vodafone Idea Limited (Vi) continued to see a drop in its subscribers with a loss of over 4.01 million subscribers. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) also reported losses in subscriber base by 0.78 million and 7,490 customers respectively.
In terms of monthly growth rate, September 2022 witnessed Jio’s user base increase by 0.17 per cent, Airtel’s by 0.11 per cent while Vi’s declined by 1.58 per cent. The total user base of Jio currently stands at 419 million followed by Airtel at 364 million and Vodafone Idea at 249 million as of September 2022.
The country’s total wireless base stands at 1.15 billion during the same month, the data said.
Wireless subscribers saw a decrease on a month-on-month basis by 0.32 per cent while the subscription rose by 0.01 per cent in urban areas and dipped 0.71 per cent in rural areas. The wireless teledensity decreased from 83.27 per cent as of August 2022 to 82.94 per cent in September 2022.
