As per the telecom subscription data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), India’s total subscriber base slightly increased from 1,183.15 million at the end of May 2019 to 1,186.63 million at the end of June 2019, registering a monthly growth rate of 0.29 per cent. Further, subscriptions in urban areas increased from 674.66 million to 675.58 million, while rural subscriptions increased from 508.49 million to 511.05 million during the same period.

The overall teledensity in India increased from 89.92 per cent at the end of May 2019 to 90.11 per cent at the end of June 2019. The urban teledensity slightly declined from 160.79 per cent to 160.78 per cent, while the rural teledensity increased from 56.74 per cent to 56.99 per cent during the period.

Moreover, the number of broadband subscribers increased from 581.51 million at the end of May 2019 to 594.59 million at the end of June 2019, witnessing a monthly growth rate of 2.25 per cent.

Among operators, Reliance Jio registered the maximum increase in wireless subscriber base during June 2019 and added 8.26 million subscribers, taking its total subscriber base to 331.25 million. Meanwhile, Vodafone Idea lost 4.14 million subscribers, the highest among operators, and its subscriber base stood at 383.41 million while Bharti Airtel lost 29,883 subscribers and had a total wireless subscriber base of 320.35 million during June 2019. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) was the only other gainer and added 0.26 million subscribers, taking its total subscriber base to 116.16 million.
