As per the telecom subscription data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), India increased from 1,198.50 million at the end of May 2021 to 1,202.57 million at the end of June 2021, thereby showing a monthly growth rate of 0.34per cent.
Further, subscription in urban areas increased from 661.18 million at the end of May 2021 to 666.10 million at the end of June 2021, however, the rural subscription decreased from 537.32 million to 536.47 million during the same period.
The overall tele-density in India increased from 87.84per cent at the end of May 2021 to 88.07per cent at the end of June 2021. The urban tele-density increased from 140.04per cent at the end of May 2021 to 140.86per cent at the end of June 2021. Rural tele-density decreased from 60.22per cent to 60.10per cent during the same period.
Moreover, the number of broadband subscribers increased from 780.27 million at the end of May 2021 to 792.78 million at the end of June 2021 with a monthly growth rate of 1.60per cent.
Among operators, Reliance Jio registered increase in wireless subscriber base during June 2021 and added 5,466,556 subscribers, taking its total subscriber base to 436.69 million. Meanwhile, Bharti Airtel added 3,812,530 subscribers, and its subscriber base stood at 352.11 million, while Vodafone Idea lost 4,289,519 subscribers, taking its total subscriber base to 273.33 million. Meanwhile, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) lost 993,643 subscribers, taking its total subscriber base to 115.35 million.
Consequently, Reliance Jio’s market share by subscribers reached to 36.98 per cent, followed by Bharti Airtel at 29.82 per cent, and Vodafone Idea at 23.15 per cent, as of June 30, 2021.
