Reliance Communications is planning to launch an undersea cable system, HAWK, with an estimated investment of Rs 6500 million.

The new cable will connect the Mediterrenean region to the rest of the world via Europe and Asia.

This cable will be a part of RCOM?s FLAG network, connecting Cyprus to Alexandria. It will serve as an alternative, in case of any damage to the cable.

The HAWK facility at Cyprus is expected to be commercially launched shortly.

It is believed that the cable will be 3,181-km long and will have an initial capacity of 100 gigabyte per second.
