Reliance Communications (RCOM) is planning to invest Rs 41 billion in setting up telecom network to provide 4G Wi-Fi services across Telangana. These services will be launched in three phases. In the first phase, RCOM will cover Hyderabad, six other municipal corporations and 37 municipalities across the state while the rest of the region will be covered in the remaining phases.

To this end, RCOM is rolling out a 1,700 km optic fibre cable (OFC) in Hyderabad. Of this, 500 km of OFC has already been installed. The operator is also planning to provide free Wi-Fi services in the city for the first six months after their launching.

RCOM has collaborated with the state government as the latter aims to make Hyderabad a 4G Wi-Fi services-enabled city by December, 2014, keeping in view the requirements of the local IT industry and also to enhance the city’s capabilities in the digital broadband infrastructure space. The provision of 4G WiFi services will also support the education, health and agriculture sectors in the state.
