RCOM has signed a $400 million network expansion contract with Alcatel-Lucent. As per the contract, Alcatel-Lucent will upgrade Reliance’s CDMA and GSM networks with additional mobile switching centres and base stations. Further, RCOM has signed a similar contract worth $200 million with Huawei Technologies.
Huawei will supply and provide deployment services for RCOM’s CDMA and GSM base stations. The two contracts will enable RCOM to expand its wireless network in India to over 20,000 towns and 600,000 villages, and double its network capacity (GSM and CDMA) from its present 35 million lines.
