RCL is planning to invest over Rs 50 billion to roll out GSM services R across the country. According to the company, the electronics required for the service alone will cost around Rs 50 billion and further investments will be needed for acquiring spectrum and setting up passive infrastructure. RCL has already paid DoT the requisite fee for a pan-Indian GSM licence, and is likely to be among the first to receive additional spectrum in case the government continues with its existing first come, first served spectrum allocation policy.
