Japanese telecom company Rakuten Symphony is reportedly preparing to conduct a 5G proof of concept (PoC) with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) as part of its expanding collaboration with Indian technology partners. The company, which has partnered with Tejas Networks for radio and core hardware, said it is also assessing several Indian vendors for potential deployment in Japan once they meet the country’s stringent quality standards, signalling growing confidence in India’s telecom manufacturing and research and development (R&D) capabilities.
Rakuten Symphony described India’s push to develop an indigenous 4G and 5G stack under the government’s Make in India initiative as the right move. It noted that the 4G stack being developed by Tejas Networks, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), and the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) for BSNL is already robust and forms a solid foundation for domestic telecom innovation.
In addition, the company stated that India’s role in the global telecom ecosystem is set to strengthen further, with its capabilities increasingly aligning with international standards for innovation and manufacturing.
