Jawahar Singh Bedham, Rajasthan’s minister of State for Home Affairs, reiterated the government’s commitment to tackling cybercrime, outlining various proactive steps being taken. He emphasised that cybercriminals are under close watch, with data showing a significant uptick in enforcement actions. According to him, authorities managed to freeze Rs 1070.6 million in 2024 and Rs 392.9 million in 2023 through the cyber-crime portal, targeting accounts linked to suspicious activities.

The minister noted the growing impact of the cyber-crime helpline 1930, which has been instrumental in addressing public complaints effectively. Citing figures shared in the Vidhan Sabha, he mentioned that since the launch of the National Cyber Crime Helpline on April 1, 2021, law enforcement agencies have blocked over 0.25 million fraudulent SIM cards and more than 0.23 million mobile IMEI numbers. This is a significant jump from the 1,457 SIM cards and 127 IMEI numbers blocked in 2021, rising to 46,494 and 16,739 respectively by 2024, thanks to improved enforcement.

Further, he warned that cybercriminals are constantly evolving their tactics. During wedding seasons, scammers often send malicious links disguised as e-invites, which, once clicked, steal personal data. Fraudsters also use fake bank account details to carry out money laundering operations and manipulate people into unknowingly aiding illegal transactions.

Furthermore, another common tactic involves impersonating bank officials or telecom representatives to trick individuals into sharing sensitive data under the guise of updating KYC details. To combat such threats, the Rajasthan Police Headquarters frequently releases public alerts, educating citizens on emerging cyber fraud methods and encouraging precautionary practices.
