RailTel Corporation of India Limited (RailTel) has secured a Rs 1.55 billion contract from Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PowerTel) for implementing a national unified network management system (N-UNMS) to strengthen monitoring and management of critical communication networks in the power sector.
N-UNMS is a centralised platform designed to monitor, manage and optimise large-scale communication networks through a single interface. The system will provide integrated visibility of geographically dispersed network infrastructure, enabling faster fault detection, improved network reliability and efficient management of national-level communication systems.
Under the project, primary and backup network management centres will be established at Manesar and Nagpur, respectively. It will further integrate with existing regional network management systems to create a unified and coordinated national network monitoring framework. The project will be executed over a period of 18 months, followed by seven years of annual maintenance contract (AMC) support, including a one-year defect liability period, ensuring long-term operational stability and system support.
As part of the project scope, RailTel will deploy an advanced software-defined network management platform capable of monitoring multi-vendor and multi-technology communication networks. The system will support real-time performance monitoring, automated configuration management and fault analysis, enabling proactive maintenance and efficient network operations for the national power grid communication infrastructure.
Commenting on the development, chairman and managing director, RailTel, said, “Securing this order from Powergrid reflects the confidence placed in RailTel’s capabilities to deliver critical digital infrastructure for national networks. This is a unique and significant project for us, as it involves building a unified platform to monitor and manage large-scale communication networks across the power sector. RailTel remains committed to supporting national infrastructure initiatives by delivering reliable, secure and technology-driven network solutions that strengthen the country’s digital backbone.”
