
Qualcomm plans to launch fourth generation technology-based broadband services by the end of 2011. The company, which had won broadband spectrum in 2010, in four circles, is also close to finalising its strategic partner for the venture.
According to Kanwalinder Singh, president, Qualcomm India and South Asia, prior to this, the company had announced a four-step strategy for their broadband venture. This included investing in spectrum, accelerating the ecosystem, introducing a single or multiple operators as partners and exiting the business. Currently, the company is at the third step and is in talks with operators.
Qualcomm is looking to rollout broadband services in Delhi, Mumbai, Haryana and Kerala on the TDD-LTE platform. After obtaining broadband spectrum, Qualcomm and equipment vendors including Ericsson focused on the development of the LTE ecosystem. According to Singh, LTE-based network equipment is available and devices will be launched soon.
He said that the company expected to commercially launch its multi-mode chipsets within the next few months. Thereafter, the devices will be launched in late 2011 or early 212. The company?s initial offerings will comprise dongles.
