Qualcomm has bought eight wireless spectrum licences in the US for $558.1 million through a federal government auction. The licences, all of which are for services in the 700 MHz band, cover the Boston, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia and San Francisco areas. Qualcomm is likely to use the licences for providing forward link only (FLO) services, under which TV programmes are transmitted to wireless devices. The company has also acquired three licences in New Jersey for $3.5 million.
