Qtel has paid $810 million to secure majority stake (65 per cent) in Indonesia’s second largest telecom operator, PT Indosat. Qtel already had 40.8 per cent stake in PT Indosat, and has acquired a further $500 million worth of shares through an open market transaction on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. It has also acquired $310 million of Indosat’s American Depository Receipts listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
