Qtel has earmarked $165 million to roll out the first phase of its planned three-year nationwide commercial FTTH broadband network. With the deployment of this network, Qtel will be able to offer internet at speeds of over 100 Mbps apart from HD digital television, VoD and telephony services. Meanwhile, Qtel has signed a multi-year capacity contract with satellite provider Intelsat. Under the deal, Qtel will utilise the capacity on the recently launched Intelsat 15 satellite to expand its international connectivity and offer a portfolio of services to its wholesale and enterprise customers in the Middle East.
