According to Anil Kumar Lahoti, chairman, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), quality of service (QoS) and growth of the telecom sector are his key priorities. He added that more stringent regulations and implementation were needed to check the instances of call drops.
Lahoti, who recently assumed charge as the chairman of TRAI, said that telecom is a sector where new challenges are coming every day from the point of view of regulation, and one must keep pace with time. Regarding his priorities for the sector, Lahoti mentioned QoS, including monitoring of call drops, facilitating the growth of the telecom sector and providing the industry with a level playing field. He added that QoS was a prime goal for TRAI.
Further, Lahoti informed that TRAI will ensure that the recently passed Indian Telecommunications Act is properly implemented. The regulator will also work on improving connectivity inside buildings and how the construction industry and telecom industry should work in tandem to provide ubiquitous coverage.
