Qatar Telecom (Qtel) and Vodafone Qatar have signed two strategic agreements on bilateral outdoor mobile cell site sharing and network interconnection. According to the agreement on outdoor site sharing, Qtel will share more than half of its mobile network towers with Vodafone. Vodafone Qatar launched a trial mobile service in the country in the beginning of March 2009, and is in the process of building out its own infrastructure. By sharing sites, the two companies aim to provide the most extensive mobile network coverage possible to streamline costs and reduce environmental and community impact by avoiding the unnecessary duplication of towers across Qatar.
